Premise Health CEO Highlights Employer-Led Healthcare Transformation in New Podcast Under the Codes

Premise Health CEO Stu Clark joined RevHC CRO Wes Pass for the latest episode of Under the Codes, titled “Employer Healthcare: Shifting the Balance of Power.” Stu shared his perspective on how employers are redefining the future of healthcare through greater investment in advanced primary care.

After brief introductions, Stu provided an outline of Premise’s role within employer-sponsored care. “Our market is a bit of a niche market,” he said. The company provides onsite, nearsite and virtual advanced primary care to the country’s largest employers across more than 900 locations in 47 states. “We’re in the primary care business, but we have an inordinate impact on the total cost of care, and that’s our value proposition.”

With employers now serving as the largest portion of healthcare purchasers in the U.S., Wes asks if there’s been a shift in the perception that they have little leverage when it comes to the quality and cost of healthcare. Stu’s response is that employers have always had leverage, but with healthcare becoming an earnings per share issue, they’ve been partnering with Premise to more fully embrace that role. “We’re bringing them down to the front row where they should be because they’re the ones paying all the bills.”

As the conversation continues, Wes and Stu touch on a number of broader industry challenges and topics such as the primary care workforce shortage, Premise’s primary care-centered health plan, why healthcare has become a talent strategy, behavioral health as a core healthcare need, the importance of aligned incentives, and more.
