Workplace wellness centers reduce member costs

Book of Business Analysis: Clients realize ~29% gross savings with Premise Health

The Study

Premise Health conducted a representative claims analysis study based on the eligible populations of five clients from varied industries – entertainment, manufacturing, and finance – and geography – east coast and west coast. In total, the evaluated data represents outcomes based on approximately 48,000 eligible lives. Within that population, the analysis was a cohort comparison of members with Premise Health’s wellness center attribution compared to community attribution. Attribution is determined by plurality of primary care provider visits and is based on frequency, not cost. Wellness center attribution rates among the five clients ranged from 37 to 78% of all health center users.

Claims analysis methodology blends Premise Health electronic medical record (EMR) data and community claims data to demonstrate health outcomes and cost of care reductions in presence of an onsite wellness center. The data sources used include: claims-based eligibility data, medical claims data, pharmacy claims data, and onsite wellness center EMR data. This is highlighted in the analysis through cohort comparison of various metrics measuring utilization rates (units of service/1,000), use of evidence-based medicine and complimentary practices that drive positive health outcomes, and per member per month (PMPM) costs. Overall, Wellness center attributed members have higher rate of chronic conditions and co-morbidities. This typically represents higher health risk and cost in a population.
