Premise Health CISO Shares Insights on Rising Cybersecurity Threats

recent study found that healthcare data breaches are at an all-time high, affecting over 26 million people in 2020, an increase of 55% from the previous year. While this increase is significant, there are steps organizations can take to safeguard their information.

Joey Johnson, Premise Health’s chief information security officer, recently spoke with Security Magazine about the sharp uptick in breaches and how the COVID-19 pandemic was a contributing factor.

“The pandemic forced the rapid adoption of technology, and anytime this acceleration happens, it’s going to come with a degree of risk,” he said. “Additionally, the pandemic shifting workers to a remote environment posed new challenges and introduced a learning curve for the workforce as employees adapted to changing processes and technology in a non-workplace environment. This opened up risk for more personal attacks, like phishing scams, to take place.”
